Another Day

This started as a reflection following my Dad’s passing in November 2018. I had the vivid memory of walking on the beach with him as a child and building sandcastles together. As time went by, we lost a number of other very good and close friends. Some of whom went before their time. So the ideas behind the song progressed and it became a broader reflection on loss and the fact that while the memory survives then so does the person.

I hope you enjoy. Listen here on Soundcloud

Lyrics:

Yesterday we walked the shore
Left footprints in the sand
A castle built, a home for dreams
A hope that they would stand

Today the tide has flooded back
Cruelly washed all clean
There’s nothing anyone can see
Of footsteps, castles, dreams

Chorus

Farewell my friend but not farewell
So long is never goodbye
You will always be here
You’re held in my mind’s eye

Verse

Sorting through old photographs
To try and find the one
That paints a thousand words of you
Before the sand ran through

Those images will never die
The times we shared together
Will always live beyond our time
Through seasons, storms and weather

Bridge

Today is yet another day
Even though you’re not returning
The world still turns upon it’s poles
And our castles are still standing
